Saguenay Fjord
DAY 1: Montreal to St Gabriel
130 km

Pick up your RV in Montreal and begin your journey heading northeast toward the Lanaudière region. The roads are RV-friendly and offer pleasant views as the cityscape gradually gives way to forests and farmland.

Make a mid-morning break in Joliette, a lively regional hub. Grab a coffee and fresh local pastries at a bakery and get some groceries for later.

Continue north toward Saint-Gabriel. The final stretch is particularly beautiful, with rolling fields and glimpses of surrounding lakes.

The town of Saint-Gabriel offers a welcoming small-community charm and beautiful lakeside campgrounds to enjoy your first night.

DAY 2: St Gabriel to La Tuque

Begin your day by setting off from Saint-Gabriel after a relaxed breakfast. Before departure, take a few minutes to check your RV’s water levels, and fuel—this route includes stretches of rural highway where services are limited. Travel west along Route 347 toward Louiseville, a welcoming small town offering everything from cafés to bakeries.

Continue north via Route 138 and Route 153 toward Shawinigan, a natural halfway point offering both amenities and attractions.

The final leg north on Route 155 is one of the highlights of this journey. This winding road follows the Saint-Maurice River and offers numerous scenic pull-offs—perfect for photography or a brief pause. Watch for wildlife and enjoy the tranquil forested landscapes.

DAY 3: La Tuque to Saguenay Fjord
290 km

Continue north, crossing into the dramatic landscapes of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. The scenery becomes more mountainous again, with sweeping valleys, rocky cliffs, and deeper forests. As you approach the fjord, the terrain changes abruptly — steep cliffs rise from the river, and the air feels cooler and more maritime.

Arrive at Baie-Éternité, one of the most breathtaking sections of the Saguenay Fjord National Park. The campsites here are surrounded by towering cliffs and thick forest, offering one of the most memorable places to spend a night in Quebec.

Spend the afternoon at the Discovery Centre to learn about the geology and wildlife of the fjord. If time allows, walk part of the Sentier des Caps trail for views over the water, or simply take a quiet moment at the shoreline to admire the vast granite walls reflected in the calm river.

DAY 4: Saguenay Fjord to Québec City
300 km

Start your day with one last look at the fjord’s morning mist before driving to L’Anse-Saint-Jean, considered one of the prettiest villages in Quebec. This postcard-perfect spot features covered bridges, artisan shops, and a harbor framed by mountains.

Stop for a walk along the wharf, grab a pastry or coffee, and enjoy the peaceful fjord views before continuing south.

The drive to Québec City crosses mountains, rivers, and forests, gradually returning to more populated areas. Once you arrive, park your RV and head into Old Québec, a UNESCO World Heritage site with cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and lively squares filled with cafés and performers.

Spend the rest of the day exploring highlights such as Château Frontenac, Terrasse Dufferin, and the charming Petit-Champlain district.

DAY 5: Québec City to Trois Rivieres
180 km

Leave Quebec City and take a scenic inland route through forest valleys toward Shawinigan, a small but vibrant town surrounded by nature. On the way, stop at La Mauricie National Park for a short hike, a picnic, or a refreshing swim in one of its pristine lakes.

In Shawinigan, you can visit Cité de l’Énergie, a fascinating museum and observation tower explaining the area’s hydroelectric legacy. The top platform gives panoramic views of lakes, forests, and the Saint-Maurice River far below.

Continue to Trois-Rivières, Quebec’s second-oldest city. Its waterfront promenade, historic streets, and cafés make it an ideal place to slow down after a day of travel.

DAY 6: Trois Rivieres to Oka National Park

Follow the St. Lawrence River southwest toward the peaceful landscapes of Lac des Deux Montagnes, where Oka National Park awaits. This park is known for long sandy beaches, calm water for paddling, and quiet forest trails ideal for birdwatching.

Before settling at the campground, consider stopping at the historic Abbaye d’Oka, once run by Trappist monks who created the famous Oka cheese. Today you can visit the cheese shop, walk around the grounds, and sample local products.

Spend the afternoon on the beach, rent a kayak, bike the lakeside paths, or simply enjoy the fresh air at your campsite.
